![]() Her passion is to ride across the open grasslands on her little red pony. Western Liang’s Princess, Xiaofeng, is carefree and wild. The Emperor orders the Danchi be exterminated but they are nomadic and their home base is hidden. His older brother is killed and the Danchi tribal people are blamed. Li Chengyin (Chen Xingxu) goes to Western Liang with his older brother to propose to the Princess, Xiaofeng (Peng Xiao Ran), in order to solidify the two kingdoms’ political alliance. The drama, Goodbye, My Princess, chose to tell the story in chronological order. There is so much to process that I’ve broken the review down into two parts – the first is more a summary and analysis of the drama while the second is a reflection on the story and the characters. ![]() In either format, the story and characters are intensely memorable. ![]() The drama is evocative and hypnotic, adding the layers and details needed to make the story more intense, more substantial, but the romance is slightly watered down. The novel is devastatingly compelling but lacking in the depth a reader craves. This is a review of the story – both drama and novel. ![]()
